87 blocks, 1,044 flats
The audio intercom system, unmaintained since the building was built, no longer worked in many flats. Cables, outdoor panels and in-flat units had reached the end of their life, and the existing conduits were not suitable for new cabling.
The system was replaced entirely with a video and card-access system. A new vertical backbone was run through the common corridor, an independent line was pulled to every flat and a new intercom panel was placed in every system room. Work went on block by block on a schedule agreed with the site management while residents continued to live in their flats.
Staff were trained and the system was handed over with a 2-year warranty.
